Russell Branyan close to a minor league deal

UPDATE 02-20-08 4:07 PM – The Brewers have officially signed Russell Branyan to a minor league deal. He will report to Milwaukee’s minor-league camp right away.

In other news, Mike Cameron sat out today’s workouts because of a sore hamstring. Apparently it is nothing too serious and he could play if it were the regular season, but Mike and the trainers thought it would be better for him to sit out a day or two until it fully healed.

Doug Melvin and the Brewers are close to signing Russell Branyan to a minor league deal to help in filling out their Triple-A roster down in Nashville.

Branyan, a utility player, played for Milwaukee in ’04 and ’05, but has struggled lately. I do not expect him to even sniff the big leagues this year. Last season, Russell hit .196 with 10 homers and 26 RBI in 163 ABs with St. Louis, San Diego, and Philadelphia.
