Q & A with Doug Melvin

17 02 2008

Adam McCalvy with MLB.com did a Q & A session with Doug Melvin.  Here’s a transcript.

There are only a couple new things in the interview:

  • Melvin said that most of the criticism leveled at the team was of the local flavor.  Many of the Brewers faithful got so excited at the beginning of the year, but they got their hearts broken as the team collapsed at the end of the season.  Perhaps that criticism was warranted?

Other teams around the nation did not criticize the Milwaukee Brewers, however.  Melvin said that many baseball fans around the country came away very impressed after watching the Brewers and saw them as a team on the rise.  Nobody expected them to win the Central last year.  Now they do.

  • It could be just me reading into the interview, but Melvin did not seem overly impressed with Chicago’s off-season.  When asked about their team this season, Melvin said that they did a good job signing Fukudome, but they didn’t do anything besides that.  Jon Lieber anyone?
