Melvin interview

8 02 2008

Homer True interviewed Doug Melvin yesterday.  Here’s what he had to say (thanks to Al’s Rumblings for the tip):

  • Melvin mentions that Mike Cameron may take over the #2 slot in the lineup after returning from his suspension.  He really likes how Cameron takes over four pitches per at bat, just like Weeks.  Plate discipline like that should give the Crew some baserunners for Fielder and Braun.
  • Sheets, Yovani Gallardo, and Suppan are locks for the starting lineup, and Villanueva has a leg-up on the 4th spot.  Nothing new on that front, I’ve been saying that for a couple weeks now.  Melvin did not say a think about Parra, though.
  • Melvin says that he’d love to get Joe Dillon a good amount of ABs this year, but doesn’t see it working out that way.  The team has too much depth.
